congratulations on your engagement and welcome to the york bridal studio!
we are on hand to guide you through the process and find your perfect dress.
so here are a few 'frequently asked questions' for you to have a quick read through, to help prepare you for your first appointment with us.
due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we have had to adjust our appointments slightly to fit in with the new rules. therefore this following section, is the new rules that we will be following in respect to appointments until further notice. please take a moment
to read these as they superseded or standard FAQ's.
we are working part time and only offering appointments on
Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays until further notice.
* your appointment *
* please arrive promptly, if you are early please be patient as the door will be locked. we will be cleaning between appointments to
ensure that it is safe for every bride. we will be running on a tighter time schedule than before, so please do not be late.
* you can bring TWO guests with you to your appointment, but are welcome to zoom/whats-app call your other friends/relatives.
* appointment times are restricted to 1 hour 15 minutes and we will need to stick to this, we cannot overrun.
* coats and shoes will need to be left by the front door. please bring socks to cover bare feet
*hand sanitisers are available and we will need you to sanitise your hands as you arrive into the boutique.
* face masks will be required, please bring your own, but we will also have face masks available for you.
* unfortunately we will be unable to provide refreshments. you may bring a bottle of water with you, but no other refreshments
* our bathroom will not be in use until further notice

if you are not comfortable with these new rules then don't worry. please look to book in with us a little later in the year
when this has calmed down. we would prefer that you reschedule than not enjoy your bridal experience with us.

do i need to book an appointment to try dresses on?
yes you do. you need to book an appointment to visit the studio as we are by appointment only
our opening hours are:
Tuesday to Thursday 9.30am - 4.00pm
Friday and Saturday 9.00am - 5.00pm
you are welcome to pop in to browse our section of dresses, shoes and accessories, but as we are such a small studio and our staff are busy in the work studio next door, it is better to book an bridal appointment if you would like to try some dresses on.
you will not be able to pop in on a Saturday as all the appointments are prebooked, and as we get booked up very quickly we request that you book an appointment via phone 01904 635470 or email - firstname.lastname@example.org
do you confirm your appointments?
we always confirm our appointments by email, which is followed up with a phone call the week prior to your appointment. if you do not receive an email/phone confirmation, please contact us before making a journey to the studio.
we normally have a waiting list for our sat appointments so if we do not get a confirmation, we would open up the appointment to another bride.
if you cannot make the appointment, please let us know immediately as we can offer the space to another bride on the list.
what type of dress shop are you?
we are a no frills, discounted bridal studio. the majority of our dresses are one-off, ex sample dresses, which you can buy and take away with you on the day. we do not offer all the additional services offered by the other luxury bridal shops, but our service is still exceptional.
when is the best time to start my search for my dress?
as we are mostly an 'off the rack' bridal shop which means that we are not tied into long delivery lead time. therefore we can accommodate the smallest of time frames. our selection of dresses are available to be taken away the same day. we do offer a small selection of designer dresses that we can order in, but these are available on immediate delivery, subject to availability, we can have your dress in the studio ready for you within 3 weeks.
(we do recommend that you leave time for your bridal alterations)
what is the price range of your dresses?
all our gowns are priced under £1000
what size are your dresses?
our dresses are in bridal sizes 6 - 22
do you sell shoes and accessories?
yes we do, we stock a fantastic range of bridal shoes all at an excellent price of half the rrp. we also have a lovely range of bridal accessories to compliment your dress.
do you charge for your appointments?
no, we don't.
who can i bring with me? all the girls?
we are a very small studio, with no waiting area, so space is very limited. therefore we would advise that you keep your bridal party to a maximum of 3 people.
what should i wear?
we would recommend that you wear nude underwear and a nude strapless bra, as this helps to give you a good idea of how the dress will look on your big day. please refrain from wearing dedicated shape wear as this will not give you a true representation of the final fit.
if possible please can you bring some shoes of a similar heel height to the size that you would consider wearing wedding day.
we would also kindly advise against wearing heavy make up and/or tanning as these do rub off onto the dresses and damages them.
may i take pictures of the dresses?
yes you may, as most of the dresses are one-off designs, that you will only be able to find in our studio
do you serve prosecco or fizz?
unfortunately, due to the strict licencing laws, we are unable to serve bubbly or fizz, we do not serve any beverages in the studio and kindly request that you do not bring any with you.
i have found my dress, what happens next?
congratulations on finding your perfect dress! we guide you through the process and complete the paperwork, and request a deposit payment of 50% of the dress to confirm your order. we accept both card or cash payments. sorry we do not accept cheques.
we plan in all your fitting appointments (these are flexible, so if you wish to change them at a later date) and we will stire your dress until your first fitting. please remember to bring your shoes and correct underwear for all your appointments. the remaining balance is due at your hem appointment.
what are my fitting appointments?
the fitting appointments are when we start to work on your dress, the appointments are in place so that we can make sure the seamstresses have time to make your dress perfect for you. these appointments are generally made mid-week. due to high demand we ask for you to be flexible with your time and work with us to manage a fitting appointment plan that suits us all.
i would like to lose weight, will this affect my dress fitting?
if you plan to lose weight, we advise that you are at your desired weight at the point of your first dress fitting. as soon as we order your dress or start to work on your dress we kindly request that you stay as stable as possible and please do not undertake any crash diets. any fluctuations in weight from this point to the final fittings will mean that there will be extra alteration work, which will incur extra costs.
do you have an in house seamstress? & do i have to pay for alterations?
if your dress requires some alterations, this will be carried out by our team of super talented seamstresses. this is at an additional charge to the dress, and varies depending on what work is carried out on your dress. this typically starts from £160, and increases with the additional work. a full price list is available on request.
do you carry out alterations on dresses that have not been bought from your shop?
yes we do, we offer a comprehensive alterations service on dresses, both bought from ourselves and dresses that have been purchased elsewhere. you would need to book in for an alteration appointment. we have amazing talented bridal alterations experts on hand to help and we are very reasonably priced. a full price list is available on request.
do you sell bridesmaids & flowergirl dresses?
we do not stock any bridesmaids dresses at this moment in time
